นักเรียนดนตรีที่เรียนด้าน composition สายคลาสสิคทุกคนจะต้องเจอวิชาบังคับวิชาหนึ่งที่ชื่อว่า “Orchestration” ซึ่งถ้าพูดให้เข้าใจง่ายๆ ก็คือการเรียบเรียงเสียงประสานสำหรับวง orchestra นั่นเอง วิชานี้เป็นวิชาที่จำเป็นมาก แต่ต้องอาศัยจินตนาการสูงส่ง เพราะว่าทุกอย่างที่เราเขียนและฝึกไปในห้องเรียนตามทฤษฎีนั้น เราไม่มีทางรู้ได้เลยว่าสุดท้ายแล้วมันจะฟังออกมาเป็นยังไง จนกว่าจะได้มีโอกาสเอาไปยื่นให้วง orchestra จริงๆ ขนาดซัก 50 คนเล่นให้เราฟังเท่านั้น ซึ่งสำหรับยุค 90 นั้นนับว่าเป็นเรื่องที่แทบจะเป็นความฝันสำหรับนักเรียนดนตรีบ้านเราก็ว่าได้ (จริงๆ สมัยนี้ก็ไม่ต่างกันซักเท่าไหร่ แต่ว่ามี software เยอะแยะที่สามารถจะสร้างเสียงเลียนแบบวง orchestra ได้เหมือนมากๆ จนสามารถใช้เป็นเครื่องมือการเรียนได้เลย)

ผมเองก็ผ่านวิชานี้มาอย่างงงๆ พอสมควร ตัวอาจารย์เองก็ดูจะไม่ค่อยได้จริงจังกับการสอนวิชานี้มาก แถมตอนวันเปิดคอร์สยังพูดแกมประชดอีกด้วยว่า “วิชานี้น่ะ เรียนไปก็คงมีไม่กี่คนที่จะได้เอาไปใช้”

วันหนึ่งในปี 1998 พี่แจ็ค (อภิสิทธิ์ วงโชติ) ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในรุ่นพี่อัจฉริยะแห่งคณะศิลปกรรมศาสตร์ และปัจจุบันเป็นผู้คร่ำหวอดอยู่เบื้องหลังงานเพลงดีๆ มากมาย ได้โทรมาหาผมพร้อมกับส่งต่องานชิ้นหนึ่งให้ ซึ่งก็คืองานเรียบเรียงเสียงประสานบทเพลงๆ หนึ่งสำหรับการแสดงในพิธิเปิดกีฬา Asian Games นั่นเอง เนื่องจากพี่แจ็คเองเป็นผู้ที่รับงานนี้เอาไว้ก่อน แต่ขณะนั้นมีเหตุจะต้องเดินทางไปเรียนต่อที่อเมริกา ผมไม่แน่ใจว่าพี่แจ็คคิดอะไรไว้ถึงเลือกผมทั้งๆ ที่มีเพื่อนและรุ่นพี่ที่เก่งๆ คนอื่นๆ อีกมากมาย แต่ด้วยความร้อนวิชาและอยากลองของของเด็กปี 4 ทำให้รับปากว่าจะลองทำดู ทั้งๆ ที่มีโปรเจ็คท์ใหญ่ ซึ่งเป็นเพลงของตัวเองที่จะต้องทำเพื่อเรียนให้จบค้างคาอยู่ (อันที่จริงยังไม่ได้เริ่มต้นด้วยซ้ำ)

งานนี้ทำให้ผมได้ร่วมงานกับศิลปินดังๆ มากมายหลายคน ผมต้องทำดนตรีคู่กับพี่ จิรพรรณ อังศวานนท์ ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในนักดนตรีแถวหน้าของประเทศไทย โดยพี่จิ ได้แต่งและเรียบเรียงดนตรีเพลง “สว้สดีไชโย” นี้ไว้แล้วอย่าง”คร่าวๆ” เป็น MIDI บนคอมพิวเตอร์ หน้าที่ของผมคือการแต่งเติมสีสันและรายละเอียดของเพลงนี้ให้ยิ่งใหญ่อลังการพร้อมกับพิมพ์โน้ตสำหรับวง orchestra ขนาดใหญ่และคณะนักร้องประสานเสียงหลายร้อยชีวิต ซึ่งหลังจากเสร็จแล้วก็ต้องส่งต่อให้กับอ.ดนู ฮันตระกูล ซึ่งจะเป็น conductor หลักของงาน Asian Games นี้ตรวจสอบและซักซ้อมกันอีกทีก่อนที่จะมีการซ้อมจริงกับวง Bangkok Symphony Orchestra และบันทึกเสียงเพื่อใช้ในการซ้อมและการแสดง

แน่นอนว่างานนี้ทำให้ผมเครียดอยู่เป็นเวลาระยะหนึ่ง โดยเฉพาะการทำงานใหญ่ขนาดนี้บนคอมพิวเตอร์ PC รุ่น 386 ซึ่งนับว่าเป็นเทคโนโลยีที่ดีที่สุดในยุคนั้น จำได้ว่าเวลาสั่ง print โน้ตชุดหนึ่ง กว่าจะเริ่ม print แผ่นแรกนั้น ผมสามารถไปเข้าห้องน้ำและกินข้าวได้ 1 จานสบายๆ

ไม่รู้จะอธิบายยังไงเหมือนกัน ถึงเพลงนี้จะไม่ใช่เป็นเพลงที่ผมแต่งเอง หรืออาจจะไม่ใช่เพลงที่ดีที่สุด แต่ภาพและเสียงในชั่วขณะที่ได้เห็นนักดนตรีและนักร้องรวมๆ กันหลายร้อยชีวิต บรรเลงตัวโน้ตต่างๆ ที่สอดประสานออกมาจากความคิดของเรา และกลายเป็นเสียงที่ไพเราะยิ่งใหญ่อลังการ ในวันที่บันทึกเสียงเพลงนี้ตอน take สุดท้ายที่ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมแห่งประเทศไทยนั้น คงเป็นทั้งภาพและเสียงและความรู้สึกที่ผมคงจะเก็บไว้ในความทรงจำตลอดไปเป็นแน่… นี่สินะคือสเน่ห์ที่ทำให้มีคนบางคนถึงรักการเขียนเพลงให้กับวง Orchestra อย่างไม่รู้จักเบื่อ
